Slow fashion label Guave and residents in Arnhem with Indonesian, Indo-European and Moluccan roots created a work together for Ties that Bind. In Atelier Batik, they unearthed memories and worked together with existing batik and fabrics dyed by themselves.
During this public evening programme (with music and snacks from Sama Sama restaurant), they will present the result and engage in a conversation about the special wax-resist technique of batik, the process that led to the work, and share the cultural and personal significance of batik. What role did batik play in their shared but equally diverse histories? And how about today?
