As Celine Semaan writes in The Cut, today’s fashion supply chains still follow the same trade routes as they did 150 years ago, during the height of European colonisation. They continue to be based on the exploitation of both humans and nature.
This route goes two ways. We do not only import our clothing from previously colonised nations, but we also export our textile waste back. So, what happens to this textile waste? Is it a good thing for the countries that receive our textile waste or are we merely exporting our problem with textile waste? We learn about the impact of our textile waste and we explore what can be done differently.
